What is Moringa?

Moringa (Moringa oleifera) sometimes known as the miracle tree, is one of the most nutrient dense and nutritionally useful trees on earth. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) that leads international efforts to defeat world malnutrition, describes moringa as “the economically most valuable species of plant”. Native to northern India, the leaves of this tree are used extensively in local dishes to provide trace nutrients, protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to people across the third world.

Moringa does not compete for high quality soils, does not require large amounts of water to grow, and the leaves can be harvested on an 8-week cycle, making it one of the most sustainable, as well as nutritious foods on the planet. While gaining interest in the western world for its health benefits appeal, until now, has been restricted due to its unpleasant taste. Sciiona has overcome this problem.

How is Sciiona made?

Powdered leaves of organic moringa are micro-coated with edible vegetable cellulose using a patented process. Each minute particle of the powder is coated, retaining all the nutrients in moringa but masking the bitter taste associated with the plants’ raw leaves.

The process encapsulates the dietary amino acids, vitamins, minerals and fibre, protecting the delicate nutritional content up to 160°C as research shows that some of the vitamins in raw moringa can deteriorate when exposed to high temperatures, moisture, light, acid and alkali solutions.

Our processor is UK based.

What does Sciiona moringa taste like?

Raw moringa is known for having quite a pungent, bitter taste that often cuts through other tastes if combined with other foods. Our patented micro-coating process ensures that each minute unit of moringa powder is coated thus eliminating the bitter taste. Sciiona has all the benefits of moringa and more with no adverse taste experience.

What are the health benefits of consuming moringa?

Moringa is:

  • 25% plant protein including all 9 essential amino acids
  • 24% fibre
  • A rich source of iron, vitamin K & E
  • A source of vitamin A & calcium
  • High in antioxidants

Utilising the highest grade of organic moringa, Sciiona is high in fibre, minerals such as potassium, calcium, phosphorous, iron, vitamins (including A and D), and antioxidants such as β-carotene, vitamin C and flavonoids.

Sciiona is packed with important bio-actives such as alkaloids, tannins, phenolics, saponins, and steroids which are important for normal body function and improved food nutrition and intestinal health.

In addition, Sciiona contains a complete protein, delivering all nine essential amino acids in a more exact match to human protein-needs than any other plant protein source. Sciiona is rich in lysine often found in dairy products and rarely found in non-animal protein, making it highly suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

It’s a natural source of these nutrients and they’re highly bioavailable, so our bodies can absorb the benefits more easily than by taking synthetic supplements.

How much Sciiona should I take each day?

Sciiona is a food (superfood) providing the essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants and basic nutrients you need in just one convenient-to-take product, with no mess or waste.   It is not a drug so the tolerances of how much to take are quite wide. That said, the suggested daily intakes are up to two teaspoonfuls per day according to weight, see table below:-

Weight (kg) Age Tsp Per day
 <25 7-9 0.5
28-38 10-12 1
40-50 Teen/ adult 1
67-75 Adult 1.5

Always start with a low intake and build up over a few days according to taste.  Over a period of two to three weeks you will begin to feel the benefit and really notice the difference with a sense of wellbeing. The differences are true with a feeling of ‘fit for life’ but often only noticeable if you stop taking Sciiona when the reduction in the wellness feeling becomes evident. Take Sciiona daily, you know it makes sense.

Where does Sciiona source its moringa from?

We source our moringa from organic growers in the natural home of moringa – northern India. Once harvested the moringa is washed and dried before it is ground into powder by our audited processor, who has an outstanding reputation for quality, hygiene, and consistency.

If I heat the Sciiona, will it lose its nutrients?

No! Unlike alternative sources of moringa, Sciiona has gone through a patented, highly sophisticated process of micro-coating which sees each tiny granule of moringa powder coated in protective vegetable cellulose. This not only protects the nutrients from temperatures up to 160°C but also protects them from the harsh acids in your stomach. However, the ingredients are released in your lower intestine thus ensuring your body achieves the truly significant nutritional benefits.

Please note it has been well documented that some of the vitamins and proteins in raw moringa can be at risk of deterioration when exposed to high temperatures.

We recommend though that you don’t use Sciiona in any recipes that require boiling or long baking periods in the oven.

What are the nutritional benefits of Sciiona?

Moringa is a known superfood with nutritional benefits including all nine essential proteins, vitamins and minerals, isothiocyanates, micronutrients and antioxidants with significant benefits for gut health, immune response and general wellness.

Isothiocyanates are biologically active breakdown products of glucosinolates and, unfortunately, are responsible for producing the pungent and unpleasant taste associated with raw moringa.

Glucosinolates have an antibiotic-like effect and help ward off bacterial, viral, and fungal infections in the intestines and other parts of the body.

These key ingredients are involved in protection against oxidative stress, inflammation, vascular dysfunction, dysbiosis and metabolic dysregulation. Sciiona has overcome the taste issues as the leaf powder has been micro-coated. This enables the unaffected delivery of all benefits into your body. Numerous claims have been made about the benefits of consuming moringa but remember: if moringa can do it, Sciiona does it better.

What are the benefits of Sciiona vs moringa?

  • Targeted release in small intestine,
